- Carl Puterbaugh received his education at Norland Public school and Lindsay Collegiate Institute. He enlisted in the RCAF in March 1941, trained at Toronto (Manning Depot and #1 I.T.S) before being posted to St. Catherine’s and Brantford where he graduated receiving his wings in November 1941. He then was made Sergeant Pilot and transferred to Trenton (Ont) where he was stationed for a short time, then being transferred to Rockcliffe near Ottawa where he was made Flight-Sergeant and was then posted to Mountain View (Ont) where he instructed for a year and was made Warrant Officer in September 1942. In November 1942 he was promoted to Pilot Officer and posted to “Y” Depot Halifax (NC) where he spent a period of three weeks and then arrived overseas in January of 1943. In June 1943 he was made Flying Officer and started his tours over enemy territory, and in June 1944 was made Flight Lieutenant. Carl finished his tour of operations over Germany and continued to instruct in England where he also took a Flight Commanders course.
