Simpkins, C.

Clifford Simpkins of Lindsay is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Simpkins whose home was 58 Ridout St. When both parents died when he was the age of 5, he went to live with his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Jos Ryall of Lindsay, R.R.2. He attended Mariposa Station and Ops Schools and the Lindsay Collegiate Institute.

Clifford Simpkins enlisted in the 1st Midland Regiment on 14 November 1940. He trained at Lindsay, Ottawa, St John’s (Nfld) and Edmonton (AB). At Edmonton he was transferred to the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Highlanders on 13 March 1942. He landed in France on 6 June 1944. He was wounded at Boulonge on 16 September 1944 in the right leg. Ten days later it was necessary to amputate above the knee. Cpl. Simpkins was later invalided home to Canada and arrived aboard the Lady Nelson, 20 December 1944. He reached Lindsay on 23 December 1944. As of May of 1945, Cpl. Simpkins was receiving treatment at Christie St. Hospital, Toronto.
