- Jack Weston Smith of Lindsay whose parents reside at 36 Victoria Ave. N. enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on 8 October 1942. A student at LCI at the outbreak of war, Jack Smith had been a lathe operator at the Lindsay Arsenal prior to enlistment. After training at Central Technical School (Toronto), #1 “M” Depot (Toronto), and the TTS is St. Thomas, he graduated as a Leading Aircraftsman. LAC Smith was moved several times, to PEI, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick stations. He served for three years’ time in these stations and was given his discharge from the service on 3 October 1945. LAC Smith has the award VSM for his service with the RCAF.
