Thursday and Friday of last wcek was what may be. called the first of a. new series of Central exhibitions to be held annually in that town. From some cause or combination of causes the great joint shows of the past few years have been pecuniary failures everywhere but. in Lindsay; and as Pctcrborough, whose turn it was this year, declined to run the risk of loss, Lindsay resolved to have a Central of her own in place of the usual South Riding exhibition, and act- ed on that. resolution with, we are glad to hear, fully as satisfactory results as could be expected. Though the entries were as numerous as at the last Central in Lindsay, there were fcwcr exhibits in live stock, not so many as formerly hav- ing been brought from long distances; but (here was on falling off in quality. scvcrttl exceptionally fine animals being upon the ground. Mr. M. M. Boyd, proprietor of “ Big Island Farm " at Bobcaygcou. showed a number of Here- ford and polled Angus cattle which at.- Wtctud a good deal of attention, as did a so his Clydesdale stallion and three or four hairy legged half-bred foals. The poultry house (which is for too small) was not so crowded with coops as we saw it three years ago; but the judges pronounced some of' the birds the finest they had ever seen, and we are pleased to learn that. several of the prizes in this department were taken by residents of Fcnclon Falls. On the open ground were agricultural implements of all kinds, including a very powerful look- ing stumping machine, respecting the merits of which a group of' fttrmcrs were engaged in animated debatc. ’I'hcre w'grc a few 2:1in painted waggons and sleight; and a much greater number of beautifully finished carriages and buggies,‘ all, we believe, by Lindsay builders. In the hall there wasia be- wildering display of the usual attrac- tions, and several of'thc town merchants bud large Show cases containing neatly arranged assortments of' the articles in which they deal. There were sgwing machines kept. in constant operation,- and quite a number of organs, two of which â€"bcautil'ul instruments. of great power and su'cctncssâ€"f'rom the Dominion Co.’.~5 , factory at Bowmunvillc, \vcrc awarded prizes. ’I‘hc'Lindsay brass band, which has lately been equip- ped with a, new uniform and new in- strumcnts, played at intervals in the building or on the grounds during the timehoff the show, and .-thc~- proceedings w‘crc' terminated on Friday by a grand and exciting “ hoss trot." Penelou Agricultural Show. The annual fall show of the Fenclon Agricultural Society was held in this village on the 29th ML, and was about. up to the average, being in some res poets better and in some worse than usual. There were but. few sheep and scarcely any pigs in the pens, but. in horses und'euttlc the turnout was much better. The SIIOW of poultry was the best ever seen in Fcuclon Falls, and would no doubt have been better but‘ for the absence of Mr. Gow, who last year had several coops upon the ground. We had so many business calls upon our time that we were unable to see the indoor department; but it is said to have been if anything better than usual, which is saying a good deal. and one visitor pronounced it better than the one he had seen at North Victoria the previous day. The Weather was gloomy and threatening during the forcuuon and shower-y after ‘2 p. tn., and the lot upon which the horses and other live stock were this year shown was so small that both men and boasts were inconvenient- ly crowded.
