.3 GAZETTE Counterfeit Money. A number of COlll‘ldlllg Canadians Who have been anxious to get rich speed- ily, but. by not ever-scrupulous means, have placed themselves in a tight cor- ner. Within the past three or four weeks hundreds of circulars have been r delivered in Canadaotfering counterfeit bills on the usual terms. The recipi- Vents of the circulars were to address Thomas Root, P.O. Box 143, Oxford Furnace, Warren county, N.J., for full particulars, this address being good for thirty days. New under chap. 40 of the statutes of last session, an Act re- specting the advertising of counterfeit money, any one who advertises, offers to sell, purchases or offers to purchase a counterfeit token of value, meaningr by that any spurious or counterfeit coin, paper money, inland revenue stamps, postage stamps or other evidence of value by whatever technical, trivial or deceptive designation the same may be ' described, is guilty of felony and liable to ï¬ve years’ imprisonment. Scores of persons in Ontario snapped at Mr. Root’s bait, and their letters are now in possession of Major Sherwood, chief of the Dominion ,Poliee. One of the earli- est circulars received iu Canada was sent to the Department of Justice, and Mr. Sherwood at once placed himself in communication with the P. O. Inspector of Warren county, N. J., who retained all letters addressed to Mr. Root and forwarded those bearing Canadian post- age stamps to Ottawa. The ï¬rst indict- ment under the Act of last session was recently chronicled in this column, and, if this Ottawa prosecution be successful, those who were so foolish as to write Mr. Root may look out for squalls.‘ 0..â€" An Imperial Dude. When the Imperial German mourn- ing terminates young Kaiser Wilhelm’s court will become the most gorgeous in Europe. He has ordered that court dress shall comprise knee-brooches, buckle shoes, three-cornered hat and colors persumably ad libitum and ae- cording:r to the individual fancy. This fondness of William's for splendor is inherent. It is brrt the development of his love for brilliant and showy uni- forms. The personal equipment of some ofï¬cers of the Kaiser’s great army to-day would abash the most fantastic and decorative dreams of Beau Bruin- mell. \Vheu the craze for gaudy trap- pings reaches Court there is ground for hope that the German worneu may take it up. At present the women of Berlin enjoy the reputation of being the worst dressed in Europe. An Albany doctor the other day cap- tured an adult tape worm forty feet long and saved the life of a baby only 1!! months old. The worm was tummy-live times as longr as the child. blew ï¬ï¬ceher Shep.
