MILAN, Team, July 10.â€"~.\ Texan named Garrett Home died ltet‘u yestcr» day of strangulation. His death was caused by the action ofa device which he adopted years ago to outwit lynchers. Hume was a herdsman on a ranch in South western Taxes 18 years ago. He soon brcnme a rich rancher. The on- incidence that existed between his ac- ‘qnisition ol’wenlth and the disappear- ance ol‘cattlc belonging to others caused an agitation that resulted in his (limp-- pcarance. He went to Galveston, where. he had a silver tubo inserted in his throat. Then he returned to his ranch. In a short time the lynchers naught him and left him hanging to a tree. Ila . wasn't as dead as they supposed, but got away and began operatiOns in au- othcr part of the State. A second hang» ing proved as ineffectual as the ï¬rst and he went to the Mexican border. The' third attempt came near proving effectu- al, for the lynchch left’guards to watch him, but a negro cut him down next. morning and he escaped to Mexico, whence he came here several years ago. ___._.--_. School, was the scene of great excite-- mcnt last night. There was a bloody battle between the Sweet and Cobb fum- ilies on one side and the Andersons and McGahans on the other. A month ago Frank Anderson was arrested at the instance of Sweet for larceny. The prosecution failed. Since then an open warfare has prevailed between the Sweets and Andersons, and Sweets" sheep and cattle have been indiscrimiu-- ately shot and maimed. Warrants were «- sworn out, and Eric ofliccrs started to arrest the Auden-sons. Frank Sweet: and Chas. Willis Cobb mOved across the Anderson domain Thursday night, and the Antler-sous, Frank, Delos and. Resell, and Ransom McGahan, another- ncighbor, opened tire. The ï¬re was rc- turncd and the contest was carried onl at long range for some time. The An- dersons charged the enemy, and Frank Anderson fell shot through the breast. After the ammunition was expended, ï¬sts, knives and clubs were brought into requisition. When the Eric oflicers. reached the battle ï¬eld. they found' Cobb with his throat slashed from car to ear, but not deep enough to reach. the jugular. All the parties were i‘u‘r jurcd, but Frank Anderson was the only one whose recovory is in doubt. All the parties are under arrest and will be arraigned today on charges of shooting with intent to kill. It is feared blood- shed will result from the meeting in. Edindore, as friends are ranging on: either side. All the parties engaged. are from good families. ‘0 The harvest in Hungary will be of good quality, though diminished in quantity; In Bulgaria the crops will be both plentiful and good.
