PEASANTRY SHOT DOWN BY smmmns. MANY KILLED AND wettxnt-in. ST. Parnasnuuo, Aug. Ellâ€"Details of the rioting at Vitekesk, capital of the Government of that name, occasioned by the people’s protest against the ex- portation of rye, show that tho disturb- ance was serious. The governor reports that there was evidence that a general revolt of peasantry had been planned. The peasants attacked the railroad ot- ï¬eials, demanding no more ryc should leave Vitekesk, and severely beat the. Jewish grain dealers, who are blamed for the whole trouble. The peasantry alsv plundered, the residences of the grain dealers, and ï¬nally attacked tlc railroad station. The military w; s ‘tht summoned. The riotcrs resisted stub- bornly and their supporters out ilc the. railroad station made a ï¬erce attack upon the soldicry, severely injuring many of them. Finally the ofï¬cer in command, after repeatedly threatening the crowd, gave the order to ï¬re upon the riotcrs. The soldiers then ï¬red a volley, killing two peasants and woundâ€" ing a number of others. The riotcrs soon afterward dispersed. Similar dis-.- turbanees are reported from Duusherc, Viut and other places, but no details have been made public. . Terrible Cloudburst. AN OIIlO RAINSTORM‘S AWFUL llAVOC. A large railway bridge is also gone, besides a more or more highway bridges. The residences and outbuildings of F. M. Coe, near- hcre, narrowly escaped total destruction. The mountain stream running into the Little Hoosick River, became a cataract, and, changing its course, ploughed deep gorges on both sides of the dwellings. Stones weighing a ton are frtquently seen washed rods from their former rest- ing places. Meadows are ruined and crops in the line of the flood are destroyâ€" ed. Part of the village of Peter-sharp; lying near the Little Koosick is com- pletely wrecked.
