A ï¬ne geological specimen of fossil tracks was found afew days ago in Broinerd’s quarry, in Portland at a depth of 130 feet below the surface. The stone is about two and a half feet of an inch thick. (in the upper side, its the stone lay when found, there are eight trucks, evidently made by some .animal about the size of a large dog. They are absolutely perlect in shape, representing the toes and the ball of the foot. The protection which British juries afford to men who abuse their wives is extraordinary, and this a striking case: At Leeds 3 man named Knight, whose wife had deserted hitu on account of his violence and intcniperance, went to see her to ask her to return home, and be- cause she refused he ï¬red three shots at her, hitting her each time, wounding her in the arm, back and ear. The jury found that the prisoner ï¬red only with the intent to “ frighten his wife,†and the man had to be discharged. A young man named John Modlin, living on Margret street. Hamilton, about two years ago swallowed a brass- headed tack. Until recently he tried every means possible to get rid of the unpleasant morsel.
