The river sweeps down, carrying with it great. piles of diltwood, eating away homes, drown- ing stock and submcrging bottom lands and islands. Along the section of river traversed it is estimated that. 10,000 have been rendered homeless and 500,- 000 acres of growing crop destroyed completely. The former landing places are all desolate. lying districts along the river has been. driven from home and ruined. St. Charles, Mo, reports the Missouri falling. and everybody there Feels rclicv- ed. Relief work is now the order of the day. LITTLE ROCK, Ark., May 21.â€"â€"'l‘he Kansas river has passed the great rise ot'1884 by more than a Font. it is now stationary and will begin falling in a few hours. No damage has been done to the city proper. At Rcdï¬cld, 20 miles from here, huge blocks of the bank have been fallingr in the river. Standing close to the shore on a section which suddenly fell away, ï¬ve persons, names unknown, were pre- cipitated into the torrent and drowned, their bodies not being recovered. Terrible Destruction. VIENNA, May 21.â€"â€"-A despatch from Klagcul’urth, the capital of Cminthia, states that immense damage has been done in that. district by a heavy cloud- burst. The rain fell apparently in a solid mass and the destruction to roads and crops is incalculable. The storm was accampanicd by a heavy downfall of hail, the stones being as l.tr_(~: as walnuts.
