S. S. FESTIVALâ€"The annual festival of the St. James’s church Sunday school was held in Dickson's hall last Tuesday _ evening. After the children had enjoy- ed a sumptuous tea, the doors were throwu open to the public, and, after several carols had been very well sung, upwards of 150 views were given by Mr. John Slater with a small but excellent magic lantern. There was a good atâ€" tendance, a fair collection, and the fest-. ival was in every sense a success. ’l‘Iâ€"IE ELECTRIC LIGHT.â€"-The time ï¬nally ï¬xed upon, after several postpone- ments, for the advent of the electric light in Fenelon Falls, was 8 p. m. on Monday of last week; but when, shortly before that hour, the two machines were set to work, it was found that the small- erâ€"â€"- the “ exciter," as it is calledâ€"' though perfectly new, had something the matter with it, and those who were Watching their lamps, in the expectation of seeing~them lighted up for the ï¬rst time, soon found that they were watching in vain. An expert who came from Toronto had no better success than M r. Perkins, who has charge of the plant here; and when the balky machine was taken to Lindsay and refused to be “ charged,†it was at once evident that it had some internal defect that would necessitate its dissection, and another was at once telegraphed for. On Fri- day afternoon it arrived at the Falls by train, and about 9 o’clOck, when but few were expecting it, every electric lamp but a few defective ones was emit. ting a blaze of light. A DOLLAR AND COSTS. ~Amongst , those who came to the Falls on Monday evening to take part in the skating car- _nival were a couple of young bloods from Lindsay, who got into the “cooler†instead of into the rink and passed the night in durance vile.
