Tun Caors.--Tlie recent rains were of great benefit to the crops of all kinds, ‘ are l and we are glad to hear that they looking exceedingly well. The night frosts early in May did some harm to old meadows, but they have improved greatly under. the influence of‘ the rain, and, from. present appearances the hay crop islikely~to be a good deal better- than was predicted a month ago, some saying that it will be fully equal to the yield of lastycar.. LIGHTNING. â€" During the violent- stormon the afternoon of the 7th inst. two stables in the villageâ€"one belong- ing to Mr. Jas. Dickson and the other to Mrs. Manningâ€"â€"werc struck by light- ning, but the injury done ‘to them was So trifling as not to be worth describing. The lightning was at times so terrific that We expected to hear of a good deal of damage having been done by it. but no report of loss of life or property in this vicinity has reached us. FISHING. i'nonue. and bass commences to-morrow, and hooks and lines are now, no doubt, being got ready for their capture. It will be an unusually good one for ’lungze, and we hope the prediction will be tit-rifled. The sale of these fish is now forbidden; but, as almost everybody likes them and but few can spare time Y to go and catch them, it would be safe to bet that a good many of them will be sold, in spite of all that can be done to prevent it. BUSINESS .CIIANGEsâ€"Mi‘. Fred Cham- bers has left Mr. F. Sundford, in whose employ he has been for several years, and has bought Mr. S. S. Gainer’s car- riage factory. which he will probably move to a site just east of Messrs Poul- sou &. West’s blacksmith shop on Eran- cis street west. As Mr. Chambers has lived all his life in or near the Falls, and is well and favorably known, it is a forgone conclusion that he will have plenty to do. Mr. Gainer is going back to his old home, Minden, where there is a good opening for a carriage maker. THE FIRST Exocnsrou.â€" The fire- men’s excursion from Bobcnygeon to West Bay, in Balsam Lake, on Tuesday last, was the first that passed through Freuelou Falls this season, but we hope that it will not be the last by a good many.
