The wound did not heal, as expected. but a few days ago commenced to foster, and on Mon- day afternoon Mr. Smith went to Dr. Graham, who administered chloroform, ‘cut down into the palm of his hand and extracted a nearly smooth hemlock splinter, about an inch long, that had penetrated to the bone. With the “ cx citing cause †of the trouble removed, Mr. Smith, who has suffered a good deal of pain from the wound. will no doubt soon be able to go to work again. EXCURSIONâ€"Tile mem- bers of the Bobcaygeon baseball club had an excursion to the Falls, last Fri- day night, by the steamer Oqemuh which did not arriveuntil quite late and remained only about an hour; which would have been a short enough time. even if she had ‘gone up to the wharf instead of landing her passengers down below our place, thus compel- ling them to walk an additional ï¬fty milesâ€"for the extra distance is at least a quarter of a mile, and we were told that there were. about two hundred on board. Why do not people who charter steamersto bring thenst Renelon Fails, insist upon being brought all the way, instead of being landed away down on the banks of the river? Of course they are at the Falls as soon as they are within the limits of the corporation; but that is not the spirit of the contract, which ought to be adheredto. A Wonderful Tonic and Strengthener. Curranâ€"On Thursday 0." last week Constable Brock received a telegram from Pickering, informing: him that two men had stolen a bay mare, buggy and harness fromthat towu and asking him to look out. for them, as it was thought that they were in the vicin- *ity, and about noon the same day he got another telegram, also from Picker- ing, stating that the men b_ad..bccn at Kinmnunt with the stolen property and had left for Fenclon Falls or Bobcay- geon. Sure enough, two strangers came here with a mare and bugg in the evening, but they did not answer the description sent to Mr. Brock. Mr. Jameslllhite, fromwhoIn the outï¬t had been stolen, came to the Falls at noon on Friday, accompanied by the Chief of Police from Pickering. but they were soon convinced that they were not on the thieves†track, and left again on the afternoon train. I GOOD FUNâ€"Early last week Miss Fanny Brandon invited upward of thirty young friends to a “ hayraek †ride and a dance afterwards on the following Thursday evening, and the double cvvnt came off as arranged for. Two of McDougall. Brandon SrAustiu’s biggest teams were hitched to two» ordinary lumber waggons with racks thereon, and each rack contained three or four hundred pounds of buy, on which the lads and lassos seated themselves face to face, nearly twenty in each Waggon, and then the ride commenced, to the accompaniment of talk, laughter and the music of tin horns. They didn’t go lar out of town, as rain appear- ed imminent; but it was such good fun, and the abundance of hay made the riding so easy, that the teams Were kept on the trot for about ‘an honr‘and a half. The dancing, to Mr. E. Uham- bers’s violin, was of course delightful; it was when we were youna, is now, and ever will be; and we pity the boys and girls who, from conscientious sci-u. ples, or inability to learn the ï¬gures, are ignorant of its pleasures. Mr.John H.
