F Friday, Sept. 19th, 190? A Long Trip. Mr. William McArthur, who left on July 6th, with Col. Sam Hughes and two other gentlemen, for a trip through Manitoba and tho North-west, returned home on Friday last, and since then has 'his journey which we hoped to obtain. The party remained about three weeks .in Winnipeg, and then travelled-about '1 500 miles by rail through the great ” wheat belt,” andEMr. McArthur says that he- never saw such crops of grain in jihis lif'c; He bought two sections, or 1,280 acres, of farming and ranching land in the Saskatchewan district, con- sidering it the host country in which a ,man can set feet. He met agrcat many persons whom he knew, some from this vicinity; but for five or six days they drove over a tracklcss prairie, seeing practically nobody. Mr. Walter Hunter. of Ladysmith, B. 0.. son of Mr. 'William Hunter, of' this village, returned home last Tuesday to visit his relatives,‘af'ter an absence of 17 years. Upon leaving the Falls, he lived for about a year in Lindsay, and then enlisted in the Canadian army for five years. He was drafted to British Columbia. and at the expiration of his period of service engaged in mining, at which he did fairly well. He says that Ladysmith is only two or three years old, but has already grown into a town with a population of about 5,000.
