sIllnrrer ‘Goods out or the way, to place better for Fall- Dundas & Flarelle Brothers, Lindsay. W - . ._.._.-._.._ Halibut-ton at a salary of $800. The appointment is a good one. as Mr. Field- ing possesses all the qualifications for the onerous and trying position, one of the chief of which is that he is a man who will. we feel sure, temper justice with mercy, and will not allow his pri- vate feelings to i:.fluence his convictions. (We hope no one will suspect us of hav- ing med the words ” trying " and “ con- victions" in a panning sense. as such was not our intention.) .‘lr. Fielding is succeeded at Crown lands agent by Mr. Wm. llartic, also of Minder), who. as an old redolan of the district and a larmer. ought to be. and no doubt is, exceedingly well fitted for the position. IN A WELLâ€"On Friday of last week a colt coining three ye:er old, owned by Mr. Levi Wager of Ft-nclon, stepped onto and broke through the platform over a well, which is stoned up. is about twelve feet deep and has about two feet of water in it. It is not known how long he had been, like Truth, at the bottom of the well. but when found he was patiently standing up on all four of his feet. with his body somewhat bent to suit the shape of the. enclosure. Sev~ eral neighbors were called together and dug a trench four or five feet deep to the side of the well and removed some of the stones. Mr. Nathan Day, who knows more about horses than the ma- jority of men, was carefully lowered into the well, and placed several ropes around the inlpl'lmned animal, which was then gradually lifted up by means of poles placed across the mouth of the well until he was raised high enough to be hauled out through the trench. He received a few bruises, and a sliver about a foot long was sticking in the skin of bio flank, but did not penetrate the flesh. Dr. Mason has since pre- scribed for him, and it is thought he will soon be quite well. llauvesr [Ionaâ€"«'l‘he harvest home services held in the Methodist church on thacvening of Tuesday, the 8th inst.. and a notice of which was accidentally omitted from last week's Gazette, were very successful. The tables were amply provided and artistically arranged. The vinnds. from the most substantial to the richest delicacies. received the well Incr- ited Ct-tlllllmltltttlotl of the many who partook of the supper. 'l‘he entertain- ment was a rare treat.
