Sin,â€" I saw an article in last week’s Gazelle about the speed of a duck’s flight, and i thought an incident I once witnessed might interest some of your readers. I was working in a field near a river and I heard a screeching sound over my head as of something passing very swiftly through the air. I raised my head as quickly as possible to see what was making the noise, and saw a wild duck (what is known as black duck and it not supposed to be the fastest kind of duck in flight), and a short distance behind the duck was a large hawk, und although the duck was going at a terriï¬c rate ot speed the hawk was going still faster The duck was making for the water, “wit-h it went into like an arrow from a. bow, and only just in time to escape its pnrsucr. I tell you, Mr. Editor, a duck can fly fast, but ll. hawk can fly still faster, and do it too with far less apparent exertion. SUBSCRIBER. 0F OSWEGO, N. Y., Wants to buy... ...
