On Mon- day of last week Detective Chamberlain of Ottawa had gathered up enough evidence to make him believe that John O'Connor of Mcdonte township was engaged in the manufacture of illegal money. Accompanied by Constable Woodrow he visited O'Connor’s house and found metal dies and tools for making the coins. as well as consider. able correspondence. He was taken to Coldwatcr and tried before Magistrates Manning and Levering and was com- mitted to Barrie gaol to stand his trial at the next nssizes. O'Connor is well known in Mcdonte, and is believed to be one ofa gang who have for some time pursued their illegal manufacturing without detection.†0*.
