Glas; pell has inst patched up and made as seaworthy as possible a canoe that is probably one of the oldest in use. It is the property of Mr. Thomas D. Dela- mere, of Toronto, who. when he took it to Mr. Glaspell to be repaired four years ago, said that he had then owned it‘f'or a4 quarter of a century, that he had bought it second hand. and didn’t know how old itâ€was. The ï¬rst thing Mr. Glaspell did was to scrape off the old paint. with which the canoe was loaded, and he then Found the name of the builder, D. Herald. Gore’s Landing, Rice Lake. and the date, 1871, stamp- ed'on the inside just below one of the gunwales. The maker, Mr. D. Herald, died years ago; but his two sons still carry on the boat-building business at Gore’s Landing.
