So far, 'the above is all the really reliable in- formation we have been able to'obtain. THE KAWARTHA HOTEL â€"Mr. S. H. Brown, lessen of the new hotel, re- turned to the Falls on Tuesday, and either his wife or one of his daughters will be here within a very few days. .Two or three carloads of furniture, chiefly for bedrooms, have already arâ€" rived, and more is Coming almost every day, but it will take a very large quan- tity to equip all the numerous rooms in the house. On Wednesday M r. As stated last week, the Kawartha hotel will be opened on the 15th inst.. and Mr. Brown, who is very much pleased with it. says that it. will be one of the nicest summer resorts in Canada. ' Too NEAR Toournsa.â€"The Irish comedy, “'Maloney’s Wedding Day,†was given in Twomey's hall on Satur- day night by a travelling company, and tho.<e who Were present any that it was well rendered; but there was but a slim attendance, the hall being not more than hall ï¬lled. The fact is, entertainments here have been rather“ too numerousâ€"â€" t 0 near togetherâ€"oi late, and to to all of them would cost more money than the great majority of our villagers feel disposed to spend on amusements. Bengough ought to have had far larger audiences than he was favored with, and we fully expected to hear that the hall was crowded on Saturday night, as any- thing funny is generally well patronised by young people. The only entertain- ment now advertised is to be given on the evening of 'l‘uesday next, the 6th inst., bydliss Emma 'l‘. Irons, elocu- tionist, who, as she is coming under the auspices of L. O L. No. 996, is likely to have a large audience, especially as she is to be assisted by local talent. CORRESPONDENCE . To the Editor of the Fenelon Falls Gazelle: Sta, * On the evening of the 24th we un- willingly overheard the familiar voice of a well-known citizen pouring out a terrible tirade of blasphemy, and threatening to throw someone out of an tip-stairs window. The threat if carried out would have likely been murder, and We could only think of one reason why a gray-haired father should so far forget. his sacred duty to his family as to think or talk ingsuch an outrageous mannerâ€"whisky ? There are rumors of other discreditable exhibitions on the same day from the same cause. Such deplorable results are likely to occurvagnin, and not less frequently because of the additional facilities from the fourth license granted on the petition of the good citizens of the village. We hear that a very strong tem- perance sermon was preached in one of the chttrches the ï¬rst Sunday after the grant- ing of the license. We wonder why it was not preached before the members were called on‘ to sign the petition. If the members avoid complicity in this evil work, we could easily have had’l'ocal option, and no license instead of four. Small wonder‘thnt the outsider. has little conï¬dence in the ministry or membership of the churches to_-, day, who make so little effort to Suppress evils under their control. ‘ CITIZEN.
