The three young couples who have reâ€" - cently been united in marriage have our “"el'y best wishes for a happy and pros- ;perous future. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cooper, of Lind- "Say, were down last Wednesday to at- "tend the wedding which took place at the residence of M r. James Powles. The Rev. R. Woodworth, of Toronto, ~=occupied the pulpit here on April 26th. The social evening at the residence of Mr. William Cooper was numerously at- tended by the young people of the vi- » cnuty, and all seemed to thoroughly en- goy themselves. Mr. J as. Pollard, of Cameron, has leas- '-ed the Robe farm as a summer resort for ma number of cattle 'of different ages. A short time ago quite a number of wild geese were wandering around Stur- geon lake, and occasionally settled on Mr. Nathan Day's fall wheat, which was mot improved by their visits. Mr. A. J. Some of our citizens enjoyed a moon- Z'light exeursion one night last week in search of a missing cart, which it was found had' taken refuge in the river, ap- parently to escape hard usage. It was .15 :ally recaptured and brought back to ashore, after several u‘hsuccessful at- tempts. We are sorry for the cart. Mr. McDonald's staff has been considâ€" erably increased and work is beginning --on a large scale. W Haliburion (Correspondence of the Gazette) 4 We have been in the grip of frosty ‘v'cather for the past eight or ten days, 'which has greatly retarded garden work. 'To-day, Tuesday, is much more spring- ']ike, so we are expecting ï¬ne weather in ‘the near future. Notwithstanding the ~-cold, disagreeable weather just past, the ï¬rst drive of logs for the season passed under the bridge and over the slide yes- ‘terday, the 4th inst, on its way to Mal- ~loy's mill. The drive was managed by Mr. Ed. Robertson, foreman, who is said "to be one of the most expert rivermen in the highlands of Haliburton. The Austin Bros. are making prepar- mtions to start sawing at an early date. Mr. Laking’s mill is to be put in motion next week. I Mr. Dutton’s team ran away one even- ing last week. They ran at full speed ‘towards the village but failed to turn at "the bridge and consequently were pre- cipitated into the water. A number of men were at work in the immediate vicâ€" inity and rescued them from their peril- ious' position, very little the worse for their plunge. The waggon and harness were considerably damaged. A change has taken place in the round- ]iouse here. Mr. Eason, who has for the past few months had charge of “ the iron steed †during the silent hours of the ‘night, has resigned and Mr. Robert Mc- Brien has succeeded him. It will be part of Mr. McBrien's duty to see that The monster is properly groomed, water- ed and fed before leaving on its journey to Lindsay each morning.
