Cairns, of Lindsay. The Keene correspondent of the Peter- borough Times says : “ We have been in- formed that the citizens of Peterborouglr are buying all the revolvers the hard- ware stores have in stock. Judging by" the reports of the Charity Board, we have come to the conclusion that the weapons must be for the city fathers. The people of this little hamlet are not. so timid as their city friends, and there'- fore are investing their money in stocks and bonds. We suppose that if any tramp- calls in our town he will immediately be put in the stocks or bonds.” ' Minden Echo: â€" It is now up to- Minden or Kinmount to invent an ex- plosive. Haliburtion has the Holmes’ Blasting Compound, which is now patens ted and being manufactured in Toronto. There comes then the Oliver Explosive. of Gelert, that promises to bring its dis- coverer a snug sum, one of these days. This week, Haliburton is forward with another explosive that is a marvel to- the people and an astonishment to the rocks. Surely other minds, moving along the same line, will be able to devise something equally wonderful. The world has need of inventive genius at every turn, but we presume it would never do for us to invent an explosive. forwe would be sure to try it on our delinquent subscribers.
