Fenelon Council met in Court of Re- vision of the Assessment Roll. After taking the oath of office, Mr. J. T. Palm- er was elected chairman and the follow- ing appeals decided : " Moved by Mr. Tompkins and seconded by. Mr. Tolmie, that John A. Broken- shire’s assessment be lowered $250.â€" Carried. Moved by Mr. Tolmie and seconded by Mr. Tompkins, that Robert Graham's as- ‘ sessment be lowered $100.â€"â€"Carried. Moved by Mr. Parkin, and seconded by Mr. Tolmie, that David Brokenshire’s assessment‘be lewered $200.â€"Carried. Moved by Mr. Tompkins and seconded by Mr. Tolmie that P. Wilkinson’s assess- ment be reduced from $2600 to $2400.â€" "Carried. Moved by Mr. Parkin and seconded by Mr. Tompkins, that the assessments of E. Burton. F. Graham, W. Riley, W. Wells and H. McDougall be sustained; that I. Naylor's appeal, and the question of the right to assess private telephone lines. he laid over to the adjourned meeting. .~. . Moved by Mr. Tolmie and seconded by Mr. Parkin, that the court now stand adjourned, to meet at Gambray on Mon- day, June 7, and to meet in council for making grants for roadsâ€"Carried. General business was then taken up. The minutes of last meeting were read and approved. It was moved by Mr. Tolmie and. sec- onded by Mr. Parkin and passed unani- mousiy,’ that we deeply sympathise with the widow and family of our late mem~ ber of council, Mr. Oliver Glaspell, in their sore bereavement. Though only elected a councillor last January, he for a period of eight years had been closely connected with the municipal life of our township, being its assessor r for that time; and performing the duties of that office with great tact and wisdom. His conduct at the council board was stam- ped by that Christian courtesy which marks the honest manâ€"God's noblest work. We therefore place on record our high esteem for our late colleague, and feel that we shall not soon forget his cheery smile and friendly greeting. , The resolution to be suitable engross- ed and presented to Mrs. Glaspell. Moved by Mr. Parkin and seconded by Mr. Tolmie, that Jas. Raby be paid $7.00 for attending J. Patterson's l'umily during scarlet fever quarantineâ€"Cd. , £1.00 or more than $5.00, with or with- out costs of prosecution, and in case of a The Ontario Beekeepers’ Association desire to draw the attention of the pub- lic to the fact that a number of members suffer from persons spraying fruit trees in full bloom, their bees being killed from the poison in the spraying mixture. This practice is prohibited by an Act of Parliament assented to in 1892, the pro- visions of which are as follows : (1) No person in spraying or sprinkling fruit trees during the period within which such trees are in full bloom, shall use or cause to be used any mixture con- taming PARIS GREEN or any other poison- ous substance injurious to bees. (2) Any person contravcning the provisions of this Act- shall, on summary conviction thereof before a Justice of the Peace. be subject to a penalty of not less than ANNIVERSARY AT HEAD LAKE.- The anniversary services of the Head Lake Church will be held at Head Lake ' on Sunday and Monday, June 13 and 14. On Sunday at 10.30 a. m. a special service; for the children of the Sunday School‘ will. be held; The children are expected?- to take part, and" the" Pastor will give arr address. At 7 p. m. Mr. J. Viileroy Park will preach. Special music by the Wile frid male quartette; Special collections at both services. On Monday there will be a high class‘. tea given by the ladies of the congrega-- tion on the grounds from 5 to 8p. m.,,- followed by a first-class entertainment- in the church, consisting of vocal music‘ and readings by the- Wilfrid Male Quarr tette ; also solos by Mrs. Ireland of Coboconk. Rev. J. F. Ireland of Coho-- cnnk will give an address. Admissionz 25c., children 150. A good time is confiv denlty expected. ‘ fine or a fine and costs being awarded, and of the same not being, upon convic- tion, forthwith paid, the Justice may commit the offender to the common gaol, there to be imprisoned for any term not exceeding thirty days, unless the fine and costs are sooner paid. The best fruit growers consider spray- ing, during the period of full bloom, as a useless waste of material, and harmful to the setting of the fruit. It is univers- ally condemned by entomologists in every part of America. ' The recommend- ed formulas as sent out by both the Fed‘- eral and Provincial Departments of Agri- culture state distinctly to spray apple orchards with Bordeaux and Arsenites : (I) Just as leaf buds’are expanding; (2) JUST unroau BLOSSOMB OPEN : , (3) JUST u'rna BLOSSOMS FALL; (4) Every ten days later if required. . Beekeepers and Fruit Growers are both urged to see that this harmful practice is stopped. It is hoped that the law will not have to be applied, as most persons are un- aware of the harm they do themselves as well as the beekeepers. ' -0â€" .
