Gardner Hunter, father of the prisoner, 52‘: v died about eight years ago, and founded y I the hotel business which has been well and favorably known throughout the Kawartha. Lakes district for the past ‘twelve years. Joseph, the prisoner, took over the business about four years ago, and ran it. for a time most success- fully until his appetite for drink became too strong, which naturally had a detri- mental eil‘eet on the business, and tour- ists who were wont to spend their vaca- tion there began to look for more agreeâ€" able surroundings. The victim of the tragedy was a- daughter of the late Henry Coulter, of Somerville, and was married about twelve years ago. Two children were born, a boy and a girl, the eldest, the boy, being about seven years old. Mrs. Coulter, mother ol‘ the victim, resided at the hotel, and was one of the first to gaze on the terrible tragedy which had teen enacted.
