An Amhersiburg deSpatch says: Since the publication of a story that a Kent County corn husker had estab- lished a record by husking 109 bushels ~ in a day, there has been a good deal 'of discussion about what really con- stitutes a big day’s work in the corn field. Though 50 to 75 bushels is con- sidered a good day's work, day in and day out, there have been men who harerage 100 bushels. The story is ’told that James Mason, now atwAlber- ta, was a great husker in his day, throwing out 140 bushels in ten hours. Robt. Clark, of Manitoba, son of the late Thomas Clark, of Colchester South, has a record of 111 bushels in nine hours, while Sol. Baltzer, Sylves- ter McLean, of the same township, 'and Albert Wilson, «of Amherstburg, are all loo-bushel men, so it would seem that the KentCounty man’s 109 bushels wasn’t such a big record after i all. ' - -"-‘:.’ u :v A NOVEL cuss 'Medical Man Effects Remarkable cure of Dipsomania 1‘5; Z . A new and remarkable cure of.dip- somania has just “been effected by a ' medical man. The patient was an ap- ‘parently hopeless case. His doctor Iprcâ€"scribed a drug, to be taken in min- ute doses to begin with. ' ' “it is a violent poison,” the latter expfained, “and can be absorbed only .ggradually. In time the system be- '-:c‘emes inured to it '. The drug must " be mixed with your wine or spirits at the rate of one drop the first day, two the second, and so on until your sys- tem is able to assimilate a whole glass of it. ’l‘he"drug will discolor your "wine." ' The dipsomaniac dutifully did as he ‘was told, increasing the dose very gradually. He noticed that, as the swimmer had said, the color of his wine grew paler as he added more of the drug. He observed, also, that he be- came accustomed to drinking less and 11.55 wine as he increased the propor- ution of the drug. At last he drank ‘with pleasure a glassful of the latter with only a dash of wine in it. He is now absolutely cured, and feels no craving whatever for wine or spirits. :He went to thank his doctor, and said: “‘Now, doctor, tell me what that mar: "vellous drug was which has made an- v'other man of me." “Water!” said the doctor. For many years past the late King Edward and King '.George himself always had their ‘l‘bcards trimmed and their hair cut by 1a certain celebrity, who is known to all the peerage as “Charles.” This indi- ‘ividual’s full name is Charles Taschke, -'and his establishment is in Regent ’Street, where the youth of London are attended to by a large staff. ' fl The'trouble arose through Sir VVil- "iliam Carrlngton, the comptroller oi -".the royal household. Sir William 211- ..so patronized “Charles,” and ran up ‘m‘a rather large account, which he omitted to settle. “Charles,” rather 'Eunwisely, as his friends say, pressed ‘for payment in no unmistakable ‘x'terms. , Sir VVilIiam was furious, and, tak- ling King George's bills to his Majesty, ;who is very economical, pointed out ~'-tliat “Charles” had been overcharging «disgracefully. King George promptly ":turned his back on the unhappy FCharles," and a new royal barberâ€" ;h. M. Lee, of Curzon Streetâ€"will ggreign in the place of M.
