Food of all kinds, soap, powdered scent, ribbons, coal and firewood are looked upon by “daily ser- vants” in Englandâ€"servants who work out during the day and sleep at homeâ€"as their just perquisites. Most persons with servants who go home to sleep are victims of pet- ty thefts, chiefly in the‘ form of food, which their employee take away, not considering that they are thus guilty of theft. “I find,” writes a householder to a London newspaper, “that my dripping always disappears from the pantry, and although seven Mlnard’s Liniment 00., Limited. For instance, if there are six mince pies, which are sufficient to put upon the table, three of them are taken. I am quite sure that the servants do not think they are doing anything wrong.” “I gave a dinner party,” writes “A. B.,” “and there were seven people at the table. Although my daily girl had had plenty of food, the next day I found that as much turkey had been taken as had been eaten at the dinner. “A servant I had recently,” said a business woman, “often would come to me before she prepared breakfast to say there was no but- ter in the pantry. Such a friend is Wm. F. Black, of this place. He suffered from Sciatica and lame back. He was so bad that he could not lace his boots or turnin bed. Dodd’s Kidney Pills, cured him and he wants all his neighbors to know of the cure. “Yes,” Mr. Black says, in an inâ€" terview, “I was so bad with Scia- tica and Lame Back that I couldn’t lace my shoes or turn in bed, when a friend gave me about a third of a box of Dodd’s Kidney Pills. I started taking them without much faith in their curative powers, and found them all they were recom- mended. “Now ’ I am recommending Dodd’s Kidney Pills to all sufferers from Kidney Disease.” Dodd’s Kidney Pills are no faith cure. They’re a. simple but sure cure for diseased kidneys. ‘1‘ JACK “IIORNER” A REALITY. Nursery Legend About the Pie Con- ceals a Real Tragedy. Few people know that the nurs- ery legend of “Little Jack Homer” conceals a real tragedy. At the Reformation the chief of an abbey in the West of England resolved to surrender, and in token thereof 'to send the deeds of the religious house to Henry VIII. at Whitehall. For security’s sake the abbot placed the documents in an pie dish and covered them with‘crust. The dish, without saying a word about the contents. he gave to a lout, Jack Horner, with instruc- tions to carry it by road to the King in London. About half way Jack Hornet be- came ravenous and came to the conclusion that it was foolish of him to starve while he was the cus- todian of a pie. So he broke the crust and put in his thumb and pulled curtâ€"a roll of parchments! The disgusted Jack Horner chucked the lot into an adjacent brook. The non-arrival of the deeds caused Bluff King Hal to suspect the abbot of contumacy, so his Majesty commanded that the poor cleric should be hanged. __>x¢___ Mlnard's Llnlment Cures Gargot In Cows. “Captain,” said a wealthy pas- senger who was about to take his first trip across the ocean, “I un- derstand this ship has got several water-tight compartments?” “Yes, sir,” was the reply. “Captain,” the passenger went on decidedly, “I want one 0’ those compartmentsâ€" 1 don’t care what it costs!” pâ€" When Your yes Need Gare Try Murine Eye Reme No Smartlngâ€"Feels Fineâ€"Acts Quickly. The first Union flag, consisting of St. George and St. Andrew, was decided to be the national flag or Great Britain by James I. (April 12th, 1608.) In 1801, when Ireland came into the Union, a change was made in the flag, Ireland being re- presenth on it by the red saltire of St. Patrick. . v The other three flags are purely maritime, and ought never to be flown ashore. They had their ori- gin as f-ollows :â€".-“For two hundred years prior to 1864 the British NaVy was divided into three divisions, the Red, the White and the Blue, each having a flag of corresponding color. the white flag only having the addition of a red St. George’s cross. In 1707 the small Union de- vice was introduced into the upper corner. In 1864’these divisions of the navy were abolished, but the three ensigns were retained in use, and it was decreed that the Red Ensign should be retained for the merchant service, the White Ensign for' the Navy and Royal Yacht Squadron, and the Blue Ensign for ‘â€" ships commanded by officers of the Royal Naval Reserve and certain Royal Yacht Clubs.” ' T A WONDERFUL DISCOVTRY. An eminent scientist, the other day, gave his opinion that the most wonderful discovery of recent years was the discovery of Zam-Buk. Just think! As soon as a single thin layer of Zam‘Buk is applied to a wound or sore, such injury is in- sured against blood poison! Then again. As soon as Zam- Buk is applied to a sore, or a cut, or to skin disease, it stops the smarting. That is why children are such friends of Zam-Buk. Again. As soon as Zam-Buk is applied to a wound or to a diseased part, the cells beneath the skin’s surface are so stimulated that new healthy tissue is quickly formed. This forming of fresh healthy tiesue from below is Zam-Buk’s secret of healing. The tissue thus formed is worked up to the surface and liter- ally casts off the diseased tissue above it. This is why Zam-Buk cures are permanent. Only the other day Mr. Marsh, of 101 Delorimier Ave., Montreal, called upon the Zam-Buk Company and told them that for over twenty- five years he had been ‘a martyr to eczema. His hands were at one time so covered with sores that he had to sleep in gloves. Four years ago Zamâ€"Buk was introduced to him, and in a few months it cured him. To--dayâ€"~over three years af- ter his cure of a disease he had for twenty-five yearsâ€"he is still cured, > and has had no trace of any return of the eczema!
