coiviihUNchTIONs. To the Editor of the Gazette : Dear Simâ€"A great many temperance men are anxious that North Victoria shall be represented in the next Legis- lature by an advocate of “Banish the Bar,†and whether this is or is not to be depends largely on the tempelance people themselves. The Reforlners ap- parently have not life. enough left to be- stir themselves and choose a man to con- ' test the Riding. .Thougll tlley have a platform and a leader to be proud of, the , lethargy induced by continual defeat is proving too powerful to shake off. So ‘ we turn to the prohibitionists and ap- peal to them most earnestly to choose a candidate so that every man may have a chance to stand up for the best prin- ciples of his being. Let us look fora moment at the stand taken by each party in the present contest. The Conserva- tires are clearly left behind in the posi- tion to join hands with Rowell in driv- ing the bar out of our Province and are true to their principles of conservatism in clinging to the Local Option remedy, which is Well nigh made useless in the remaining municipalities in Ontario by the rope and stone hangingâ€"round its neck, namely, the three-ï¬fths clause. The proof of this is seen by the resi- dents of Fenclon Falls and many other towns in the Province in the results of the late contests in those places. There- fore we say .Local’Option has about reached its lilnit'ol‘ usefulness under the Whitney or Hanna rule. -‘ Then why not, if We have anytrue interest in' what the future of our boys and girls may be, Woodchuck Killer ' ThelWoodchuck or ground hog is fast be- coming a pest to the farms, destroying grain and root crops. Now is the time to exterminate them, a wholevfamily, at .once, with our 'woodchuck killer. -No poison to set out to endanger the lives of other animals, and it is not dangerous 3, to handle. _ - Call at our store and let us tell you about manomwwo m' m it. via? , - 9o.
