The lungs were found congested, and the throat was en- larged and ulcerated, while firmly fastened in the coating of the stomach the $800 diamond that Dan picked last summer from a. gentleman’s shirt front ip Mont- real was found imbedded. The stomach ‘ was 18 Inches in diameter; PORT HOPE, Jan. 17.â€"Thomas Miller1 of Douro was crossing Croggin’s Lake on ‘ foot when he broke through the ice in ‘ about 35 feet of water. After breaking about 25 feet of ice in his efforts to reach the shore he was almost perished with the cold and would never have seen the shore if Miss Kate Forbes, who saw his danger, had not come to the rescue. Though the ice waved under her feet she boldly ad? vanced, headless of the cries of Mr. Miller that she Was in danger, and extending a fishing rod to him drew him exhausted and chilled to the bone to the shore. Mr. Miller’s ones had been heard by Miss Forbes, whose home is about 300 yards from the spot where he fell through the Ice. Special to the WATCHMAN. PRESENTATIONâ€"-On Monday evening, Jan. 11, a number of the Franklin folks assembled at the honse of Mr. Ray, of Reaboro, and spent a few hours in a very pleasant manner. _The object of their visit was to repay to a slight degree the services of this man,who has labored hard among them to further the cause of God. Mr. Ray was taken very much by suprise, but replied in a very suitable way and gave good advice to all present to labour under the banner of righteousness and their rewa d is certain. The following is the addrei as read by Mr. F. Gillie, our gnew teacherzâ€"We. the members of the Franklin church, who have been aided in our christian work by your services, feel that we owe to you a. great deal. In all time to come, and in all your voyages on the sea. of life, we wish you and all your family every possible success and may you ever be laboring under the banner which has earned for you the esteem of the Frank- lin congregation.
