Brown had the misfortune to slip on the ofice floor of the Simpson House, and in falling struck his head on the staircase. When picked up he was found to be unconscious from the force of the hlow, and deep wound, about three inches in length, was found on the back of his head. A doctor was at once sent for, when restoratives were given him. After regaining cons- cious his wounds were quickly dressed and the injured man was driven home. Mr. James'Doan, brakexnan on Con- ductor Britton’s train, which runs between here and Port Hop), had the misfortune to have the three first fingers of his hand badly smashed while coupling cars at Franklin on Tuesday morning last. A doctor was immediately sent. for, when it uvv‘v- . was found necessary to have two of the fingers amputated. The injured hand was immediately dressed, and at last reports he Was doing as well as can be expected. The second annual convention of Vic- toria County of Y.P.S.C.E. will be held on Thursday and Friday, Feb. 18th and 19th. The first session is to be held it St. Andrews’ Presbyterian Church on Thurs- day at 7.45 p.m. Several of the leading Christian Endeavor workers will take part in the meeting. The second session to be held in the Y. M. C. A. rooms Friday morning, will take the form of a sunrise prayer meeting from 6.30 to 7.30 a.m. Rev. Mr. McAuley, of Woodville, will have charge of the meeting. The third session, on Friday morning, in the Baptist Church. Meeting will commence at 9.30 a. m. Reports will be heard from the county socities and several papers will be read on very interesting subjects. The fourth session, on Friday afternoon, at 2.30 p.m., will also be held in the Baptist Church. At the close of the meeting a vuestion drawer will be conducted by the Provincial President, Rev. J. A. R. Dick- fon. of G'xlt. The attendance was not what it should have been, but enough were present to show that the men deter- mined to have a lacrosse club. Mr. Illlucu uu ..... h S. Malcolmson was appointed chairman of the meeting. Mr. Malcolmson made a few brief remarks in regard to what we had assembled for, and also to state that the Lindsay people should take more interest in the game, and help to encourage, instead of discouraging, the boys in trying hard to hold up Lindsay's end of having one of the best teams in the Province. The next meeting has been ar- ranged for Monday, Feb. 29th. when it is expected that a large crowd will be present who will put shoulder to shoulder to make the lacrosse club a grand success during the coming: year. At: the next regular meeting of the True Blues. the first Monday in March, a White Rose and Blue Apron degree meeting will be held. On Friday morning last Mr. Arch; Campbell’s horse took fright and ran away. It was caught before any damage was done. A large nurnber of Lindsayites drove to Port Perry on Tuesday last to take part in the fancy dress carnival being held there that evening. Owing to the cold weather and bad roads on Saturday last, the altar boys of St. Mary’s R. C. church had their drive postponed to some future date. The Annual Provincial LOrange Grand Lodge of Ontario East will be held in the Oddfellows’ hall, Napanee. on Tuesday, March lst, and following days. Sunday last was the coldest day we have experienced this year and prevented a goodly number from attending the differ- ent churches during the day. Mr. Wm. Walters gave a entertainment with his phonograph at the Separate school ‘ on Monday afternoon last, much to the enjoyment of the children present. The farmers should now look over repair, and paint up his old machines and also arrange for procuring such new ones as may be needed. It is none too early. Friday last was a lively day in town. The touting of horns, waving of flags. and processions in honor of Mr. Fairbairn and Mr. Hughes being returned to Parlia- men, being the cause. The hockey match between the Gov.- General and Lindsay teams did not take place on Friday evening last. as was announced in last week’s issue. but we understand is to take place at an early date. Farmers driving into town on Saturday last found it pretty hard work to get through the drifts, as in a number of places the snow banks were as high as six and seven feet, which had to be shovelled through before they couid procceed on their way. No doubt, a good deal of tall swearing was done when some received the mischevioua envelope. A number of our enterprising young men have come to the conclusion to form an orchestra. and have already some of our best musicians enrolled. This is a long felt want, and no doubt the citizens of Lindsay will rejmce in the idea of once more having a string band in our midst. The additional machinery being put into ‘ Sadler, Dundas Co.’s mill is nearing , completion. and it 18 expected that busi- . ‘ ness will be resumed about the lat day of March. There have been an “army” of hands employed during the past two months, some of the best millwrights to be had in the province, and it is expected that when everything is in order that the output will be so largely increased that it will rake but a short time to pay 'up for the loss of time in putting in the addition- ial works. The Empire of Wednesday says :â€" Passing through the city yesterday was Mr. J. D. Flavelle. of Lindsay, the most famous curler in all Ontario. He was at the Walker house, and was returning from the North-west laden with the spoils of victory. This is the second year in suc- cession that Mr. Flavelle has taken his Lindsay rink tn Winnipeg and carried all before him, winning the International .
