THOS ARMS'I KONG, comer Y ork and Russell- sts. In conclusion we may state that a great deal of well deserved praise is being bestowed upon the able representatives of this county, on the pleasing manner in which they introduced and assisted the deputations, and also to Mr. R. J. Mc- Lang hlin, to whom much of the success is due. Coxsmsnsets self laudation by our town council was indulged in at the last meeting of that august body, over the result of the visit to Ottawa. We have taken some pains to investigate what reasoning powers were brought to bear on the ministry by'the members cf our council. who went on that jamboree and the answer is “ nit.†If the town had to l spend money in order to have numerical l representation why did they not pay the expenses of men who had business inter- ‘ ests and business capacity. It could be very well defended if they had voted 3. grant to send Messrs. Thos. Saaler, J. D. F lavelle and John Carew, or men of that stamp, in company With the Mayor, J. A. Barron. Q.C , and Capt. Crandell. It is utterly indefensible for a councillor, who knows no more of the question than our black cat, to make the town pay his expenses. We have learned from the remarks of Reeve Touchburn that more light was thrown on the matter in the interview before the Hon. Mr. Blair. by Mr. H. O‘Leaxy. who was not one of the : deputationuthaniall thecombined orations. ‘ of our town fathers. It was not by ‘ anything said or done by any, or all, of , the councillors present, that Minister i Blair took such prompt action, and we: know it. If they wanted a trip let them ' t lpay for it. Just fancy a lot of such men f 20mg, as they did, to influence a govern- l mentâ€"and forgetting to insure the town 6 property in their absence. and leaving c things in such a muddle as they fcund on their return. Truly our town affairs haVe fallen into queer hands.
