It appears that recently there has been considerable infringement of the law in regard to selling liquor to Indians. While a case of this kind was in progress a. few days ago the defence undertook to show that there was no infraction of the law because the Indian was only half an Indian, the other aaif beingScotch. The Indian, who has evidently had his eye-teeth cut endorsing this view of the case, the Magistrate enquired which half was drunk. The noble red-man prompt- ly replied that “it was the Scotch half that was drunk.” An immediate acquit- al followed. Logic of this kind would knock-out even our own police-magistrate D. J. McIntyre, but we venture the opinion it would be better to introduce some other nationality for the “other half” as his worship has a. high regard for his “airpeculiar people, the Scott: ” and if a "fallen half” should appear be- fore him. that half would, in all-pro.- â€"-A large quantity of decaying fish chiefly suckers, line the shores of the Song 09; The same state of things :3 saidg to axis“ all along the lower waters. The beautiful eight-{mt spruce hedge first attracted their attention on entering the premises, and for a time the converqarion dealt entirely with the superiority of hedges over the t-lti time'rail fence. The viueward was the next point of interest, and the manner in which zin- vines: are kept met the unanimous approval of the county legislators. The line showing of fruit trees wee a revelation to all when they learned that the grow allowing of fine healthy fruit (recs represented no less than thirty different varieties of apples, the some of pears. and [some twenty kinds of plums, all bearing and in excellent shape. Then the small but select nursery, with many of the small trees already bearing, came in for a close examination; while Mr. Robson ably ex- plained the superiority of the different varieties and their adaptability to our climate. Long rows of StotL’s Monarch rhubarb came in for a close inspection and the lovers of rhubarb pie grew eloquent in its praise. The monarch is certainly great, being not. only large and long, but; of fine texture, with immense leavesgmarly two feet; in u idzh, The great rows of well laalened 'i'lriglislz goose berry bushes were admired and promieea nice revenue: to the owner. while the small but iuxmiant strawberry patch promises to make happy the fortunate consumm of the luxerious fruit The flower beds are in course of prepara- tion and willsoon be in full blown: we}; flowers taken fmm The hotâ€"house. {The large showing of all kinds of {vegetables enabled the visitors to pick tuna few pointers in this line.
