The model school students of this year are not behind those of former years in having a literary and debating sbciety. Although being somewhat fewer in number they are determined on giving as good entertainments during the term. if not better than those which have been hitherto given by .the modelites. Their society has been organized with Mr '1‘. Buck as president and Mr. W. Irwin as sec.-treas_ The students are divid- ed into two sections; the sections getting the program up alternately for each Friday even- ing. On Friday last they gave their first entertaimnent of the term and although the committee had but a short time to prepare it, the program was indeed grand. Several im- promptu speeches were given which were very humorous, Mr. J Armstrong, “DIarried Life , ” Mr. McIIlhargey, “A New \Voman ;” Mr. I. Peel, Y“Woman’s Political Rights;” I. Workman, “Sawing Wood.” Some of' the ladies were then C31.l§d.Â¥.1110-0 to” spealgplor the “New \Voman.” The speeches, although short, were quite spicy, and showed signs of promising speakers. Mr. O. Bowles gave a choice reading which was highly appreciated. The ladies then very skillfully acted a “Charade” which caused a considerable amount of guessing on the part of those looking on. The word “Parkinson” was at last disCUvered which answered to three acts. Mr. T. Buck then read the funeral oration of Cesar -â€" by Mark Antony. The exening’s program was concluded by a spelling match. 'lhe society extends a hearty invitation to all who wish to attend. They have secured a fine organ and hereafter intend having instru- mentals, solos duetts, etc. A good program is being prepared for next Friday evening, an interesting debate being one of the features. Lindsay Lodge l.0.0.F. Mr. Henry White of Port Hope, who was recently exalted to the important position of grand master of the Grand Lodge of the Inde- pendent Order of Oddfellows of the province of Ontario, will make his first official visit to Lindsay Lodge No. 100, and District No. 31. on Thursday, Nov. 5th next. The local lodge is taking active steps to make the visit a mem- orable one in the annals of the order in this district, and at the same time extend to the newly-elected grand master a reception worthy of his proud position. Each lodge in the dis- trict will be represented. A capital program is now being arranged for and will include addresses by the grand master and other mem- bers high up in the order. After this two crack teams will give an exemplification of the floor work and a batch of new candidates will he initiated into and made acquainted with the mysteries of the order. A hearty invitation is extended to all members of the order to be present and assist in the festivuies. Further particulars later on. Model School Notes. Home for‘ the Aged. 50 cts. per annum
