FOUND Dunâ€"0n Thursday of last week, Mr. Issac Milburn. a well known farmer who lives on the Mud Lake Road, left home about ï¬ve o’clcck to go to the rear end of the farm and bring the cows. After an hour’s absence, as he did not return, his mother, who resides with him, began to get uneasy and as there was no tidings of him by seven o’clock she alarmed the neighborhood and dozens responded to the call. A number of search parties were formed and the big swamp at the rear end of the farm was thoroughly searched, but with no result. The cows were found enclosed in the pasture, having never been visited by the missing man. The search was continued all day Friday and Saturday, relief parties being con- ' tinually sent out. but no tidings what- ever could be gained. As Mr. Mil- burn was snbjet to attacks of epilepsy I it was feared that in crossing the: , swamp he might have taken a ï¬tand' I be lying under some brush unable to help himself or make his whereabouts ‘ knOWn. It is suppos ed, from the nature of the injuries, that Ralph in falling had struck his head with great force upon the hard ground. fracturing the skull at the base, and producing hemorrhage of the arteries, as blood flowed copiously from mouth, ‘nose and ears. Ralph never regained consciousness, and breathed his last about two o’clock on Sunday mOrniug. The grief-strick- en father reached here to his equally grief-stricken family on Monday morning, and on Tuesday afternoon Ralph's remains were laid away in the Union cemetry. Yovmrm. Darnlvrrv.â€"Monday after- noon of last week County Magistrate Edmisen of Peterboro held court at Norwood, when Daniel and John Grieves were brought before him, charged with horse stealing. The case is a most peculiar one. On Friday last Mr. J as. Buchanan of Belmont. left a horse in a ï¬eld on his farm, harnessed to a stoneboat, and went .into the house for a few minutes. On his return to the ï¬eld he found to his aston- ishment that the horse had vanished as completely as though the earth had swallowed it up. The stoneboat alone remained. As he had a horse stolen from ‘ him early in the spring. he at once sus- pected that other means than supernatural had conspired to spirit the horse away, and word was sent in to Norwood con- cerning the theft of the animal, which was found in the village on Saturday in the possession of a young lad named Grieves. who is only thirteen years of age. On being arrested and brought ‘ before Mr. Pearce. Grieves owned to stealing the horse from the ï¬eld, but ' pleaded in extenuation that his elder ' brother Daniel had urged him to do the ' deed, telting him to whom he could sell the horse. He had taken the animal to the man who was recommended as a pur- chaser and had sgreed to accept 830 for the horse. the money to be paid over in Norwocd on Saturday evening. He also stated that he, his elder brother and a man named Scriver stole the horse which was taken from Mr. Buchanan’s ï¬eld in the spring, and had tried to sell it near‘ Hastings. Failing to dispose of it, and afraid of being caught with the animal, they drove it into the river and drowned it. On being brought before the magis- trate Monday the boy repudiated his statements to the Warden, stating that he 3 had liedin respect to everything but the n fact that he stole the horse.
