ALMOST A FATAL ACCIDENT.â€"()n Satur- day last Chief Engineer John McKee, of the Navigation 00., drove his brother’s team and cutter to the Muskoka Wharf to bring home his chest of mols. He was accompanied by his two little sons. Tying the horses, McKenzie went a few 3 steps for a box, and on returning with it, the horses became fribhtened and backed into the water, eighteen feet in depth. The youngr boy, Willie, was seated in the mutter, but his brother Alex. had fortunat- ' elyjumpedout, to which circumstancelittle Willie owes his life, for the father could not have lifted Willie out of the danger without the aid of Alex. who manfullv assisted his father. As the cutter and ‘aeamapproached the wharf, Mr. McKenzie had reached the horses‘ heads; but he c-mld not stop their mad impulse, and was himself carried down with them. Being a. good swimmer, he swam to the stem of a steamer. Willie. who had gone down beneath the horses, was not in sight, and the terrified Father despaired of ever seeing him alive again. But in a minute the boy floated to the top, and his father soon caught him and swam l with him to the horses. Getting on their 'backs, he succeeded by great exertion in lifting Willie up to where Alex. Could reach him, and both were evxdently in safety again, before other help arrived. Willie was only slightly bruised by the horses. but suffered greatly from exhaust- ion and shock. and during the afternoon 'was in a very critical condition.
