Over thirty candidates were nominated and if the 7 speeches at night were any indication we are on the eve of a hot fight for municipal honors. About eight o’clock Colonel Deacon faced a big audience in the old Opera House and held up an unusually long list of names and threatened to call their owners to address the assembly on town topics. The Colonel is a man whose word goes and beginning at the first he turned the municipal gatlings loose upon the long-suffering ratepayer. Our selection of Watches is a Royal one. Walters and Kylie set forth record and reasoning to show why each and not the other should be in the mayor’s chair next term. The audience seemed ab ut vvenly divided in their sympathies. Mr. Kylie made the strongest address by all odds and laid good foundations for his canvass. Moreover he is the nominee of the citizens’ committee and will l't'COiVU their vigorous support.
