The village council met on Monday ' evening last for the ï¬rst time in 1887. the members being all present. After the usual routine the business of appoint- ing the necessary corporation oflicers came forward when the council appoint- ed Mr. D. McNabb and the Reeve Mr. D. A. Campbell. to audit the village ac- counts. The Board of Health next came up for consideration and the action of the Board of 1886 was commented on; nothing could be said, however, the Board having done but little. The Coun- cil then appointed the Board for 1887 as follows viz : J. J. Cave, Colin Campbell and W. S. Glassford, who with the Reeve and Clerk constitute the institu- tion for the present year. Considerable discussion followed as to the appoint~ ment of other statutory oflicials. Mr. Proctor desiring to have several ofï¬ces embodied in one Individual and which.he believed would effect a considerable sav- ' ing in salaries paid. Whether the latter end would be secured or- not we are of the opinion it would prove better than 1 the present system. Finally it was mov- 1 ed by Mr. Proctor and seconded by Mr. Young. that the name of Mr. Wm. Daly be inserted in- the by-law as Sanitary ‘ Inspectory and Road Commissioner, leaving the other ofï¬ces in aboyance. I The report of the Board of Health for It [886, next came in for consideration so I Jar as it dealt with the Inspector‘ssalary. ‘ The Board. it appears. recommended i that the sum of (540 be paid him for his services and some 92.35 for disbursments Mr. Proctor objected to the amount and after considerable discussion a resoln. tion was tabled by Mr. Proctor, seconded by Mr. Westoott that 820 be the amount . paid for the Inspector's services during the past year. and that his bill for dis- bursments, 32.85 be also allowed. The motion carried. In this connection‘the diptherin cases in town came up for con- sideration and the Reeve explained that the authorities of Cannington felt some- what sore over the strictures applied to them by this village in the matter. after which the accounts of the Medical Health Ofï¬cer and the Chairman of the Boardwere received and ordered to be paid. The Clerk then read the report of vital statistics for the year, showing Births 19. Marriages 8. Deaths 9, an in~ crease of population of 10 on this count; . This report not admitting of discussion was peacefully adopted. Mr. Young con- . sidercd the time had arrived when the I council should look to the protection of ; the village against tire and asked that a - omnnittcn of the council be appointed to l enquire as to the cost of a system of 1 l l l ‘ 7' I mt‘cr worlm and tho best mr‘mm 1.0 ae- um-u Hm sumo.
