Ned Donnelly, second son of Patrick Don- nelly, met with what might have been a more lacrious accident. - n Friday last while edging shingles in his father’s mill. he escaped minus,pz\rt of a. finger only. This is the second accident of'the kind that has occurred in this mill since itsi‘opening in the spring. We attribute it to the carelessness or want of proper equipment in the machin- cry. Bruin has again appeared in our midst. He has been seen frolicking with some calves in this neighborhood not lung ago. One of our boys charged him with a. volley of pigeon-yhot, Thursday evening, nothing else being at hand at the time. From Our Own Correspondent. Bailey "correspondent wishes to know wllat'hm become of “That Brechin Corres- mndeut." {and thinks ha has fallen in love. t strikes me very forcibly that he has had an attack of that passien himself. and it is not at all surprising that he should fancy others similarly atfcctfl. Be careful Râ€"â€"‘ -â€"-I am told it is a. very ulangurous malady. A mishap happened durin' the throw- 1110 (1f the shoulder-stone. This is one mme to add to the loner list of accidents which 000111 £10m throwhw the shoulder- stone.‘ Dominion Day was celebrated here in a patriotic manner. In the morning the steamer Cebueonk arrived from Fenelon Falls, calling at interme linte puints for ex- eursionists. The several gmnes were keenly contested, and much intelest maintained by the onlookers. The chief (:Xeitemena was mused by the walkers of the greasy pole. The pole was suspended (War the river and. when the valkers reached the middle the vole began tn sway and they had to jump into the water, and swim for the shore. The Scotch and Club \vlieats have for SeVeral years been degenerating. and I think prizes for these wheats should be dis. continued and other wheats substituted in their place. There are several varieties which stand Well among many agricultur- ists. Among these are the White Russian, the \Vhite Fife, the Lost Nation and Ana- necta. There is a new variety coming he- fore the public, Ecalled the French spring wheat. which is supposed by manv who are qualified to judge, will soon stand high in public iavor for yield and for milling quali- ties. Such as the above and other new varieties should be encouraged. instead of old varieties which have lost their useful- ness. I think it would be well to discon- tinue giving prizes to grade male animals, more especially to grade hulls.and thereby dis- conrag» the raising of inferior stock. There ought to be an alteration or addition to the min list as regards the class of horses, and if the resources of the Society can permit there ought to be several additions to the prize list, and which I ere long hope to see. But all this and more depends on the energy and enterprise of the officers of the Society. I hope from this forward these gentlemen will work with a will and show that their Society is advancing, and not receding. Siossr Mcstzm. Beaverton. July 4th, 188]. \VOODVILLE FARMERS’ MARKETS.
