We think it gives character to a business man. One great desiratum in this connection is honest advertising â€"thot is. never advertising:r v but one does not possess. A very common cns~ tom is to write an. advertisement in an ‘uï¬â€˜lce In 8- geneui sort of way. This is very absurd. A man ought to ï¬nd out just what goods in a particular depart- ment Le wants to put before the public, and no must take care that he has those [veils on hand when he advertises them. ‘There is nothing more annoying to a. customer than to come into your place for an article that has just been adver- tised and to be told you are out of it, \nnd that what he saw was merely an advertisement. Such advertisements causes advertisements to be discredited, and brings no result to the advertiser. We believe it is necessary for a. mer- chant to have his name before the pub- lic if he expects to deal with the public. Judicious advertising is the key to suc- cess.“ This is the verdict of a. firm which from the liberality of its advertis- ing is known over the length and breadth of the Dominion. 'l‘hu Dominion L‘slechaniuul and Mflhug ,‘(ews says: One of the ï¬nest mills 1n thu m‘uviucuuf ()ntzu‘iu is situated at Ho:l.‘.'ul‘tm|, Out. on the shores of tho bezuxtiful Luke h‘uucoc. It is the pro- putty of Messrs. Dobson Campbell. The building is of white brick on a stone foundation. its size is 60x40 and its height four storeys and basement. It is run .by water and steam power, the latter taking the place of the former during low water. A 18-foot head ol water is obtained {tour the Beaver river. which flows past the mill and empties into the lake a few hundred yards below. Three water wheels supply the power when water is used. When water he- comes scaree a 50-h. p. Corliss engine. made by Messrs. Inglis 6: Hunter, lends its powerful aid. The mill was built in 1873 by Mr. J. A. Proctor on the site of an old sawxnill. Mr. West of Peterberro did the millwrighting and placed the stones and other machinery in the build- ling. In 1882 the mill was changed to i the roller process by the Barter Co. In 1885 it was rented to Messrs. Dobson Campbell. who purchaseddt one year ' later. About four men tbs ago the ï¬rm remodelled the min. using Goldie 6: Mc- Cullough's rolls and the Dobson patent tlour dresser. The proprietors claim ltliat theirs is the only mill in Canada using an entire flour dressing system. The capacity of their mill is one hundred barrels in twenty-four hours.
