Rome weeks ago we called attention to the numerous drunks which disgrace our streets of nights, and particularly Saturdays. If any of our citizens were out on Saturday night last about 10:30 o‘clock and happened to visit the mam street they could have come to no other conclusion than that some inebriate asylum had been loosed on our streets. Drunks by wholesale, while the edges and corners of our sidewalks were decor- ated by ï¬lthy mouthed fellows, whom had our constable been at his post in- stead of where he was should have lodg- ed in the lock up. It is time this dis- graceful state of affairs were put a stop to, and 1n the name of the public we call on the Council to exert in behalf of the village its authority. What use is the present constable to the town ‘2 When his services are required is he ever at hand ? Has he made one arrest in the vil'agc this year ? We doubt it. although every Saturday night for some time past his services have been required. This village can always ï¬nd citizens to do the ornamental work of walking about and drawing a salary. what is wanted is someone to put an end to this disgusting and disgraceful state of affairs at once. This is no exaggerated statement as the Council may easily learn and unless something be done at once the citizens will take the matter in hand to form a vigilance committee to "deal with these cases.
