The Crown vs. McKeeâ€"Perjurvâ€"was a. case tried before a bench of magis- trates on Fridav and Saturday last. The case arose under the recent seizure of liquor here under the Scott Act and Mr. Alex. Hamilton, who was the complain. not in the case. sought to prove that the Rev. Thos. McKee had committed per~ jury in stating under oath that he did not know one “Hamilton Magahv." The aï¬air seemed entirelv one of wrong pro- nunciation and from the manner in which the name was given Mr. McK ee. namely. “Mageegee.†it could hardly be wondered at that he replied in the negative. The Magistrates. Messrs. Foley. Bruce. Me. Rae and McPherson were divided and on summing up the pros. and cons.. Messrs. Bruce and McPherson were fordischarge and Messrs. Foley and Mcllao. for com- mittal. The case consequently dropped. Considerable interest was taken in the matter from the fact that both parties to the case are closely identiï¬ed with the enforcement of the Scott Act. Mr. Hamilton ï¬guring as a very deï¬ant violator of the law and Rev. Mr. McKee us its champion. this being so. it was considered that the case was simply one of spite and consequentlv the temper- .ance people as represented hv the ladies of the W. C. T. Cheeky Emigrants. was 0! a decidedly superior character but in the kitchen department of ladies' exhibits the show was very meagre. The beat feature of the hall was the noble display of route. We do not think a better exhibit could be vimwd at any of the large shows than [Ji‘i‘m‘lllmi itself here and considering the unfavorable nature of the season. the results are aswniahinu. One margold. grown on the farm of Mr. Juo. A. Proctor. and which some parties had the curiosity to weigh. tipped the scale at titty-one pounds and it is stated that the weight is not uncommon through the crop. All other roots and vegetables were equally as good. showing sound and clean aub- stonce. In the outside departments. the show of animals was not up to that of last year. although such as offered was of excellent quality, particularly in cattle. If the exhibit can be taken as a fair criterion. we sliOuld say the stock of this locality is rapidly improving and that in a very gratifying sense. There was a good exhibit of poultry in the various varieties. but the prizes in this department being very limited. leads largely to curtail the entries in this really interesting feature of the show. Altogether. the show of 1888. cannot be said tohave been a success. and it. 13 with regret we are forced to say it. We hoped to publish the prize list this week. but ï¬nd it impossible owing to pressure of other matters previously in hand. It will appear in our next. Highest Prlco "HUM PROSPECTS FRIDAY.
