The company ask for no ï¬nancial assistance. and the farmers are well looked after. If natural gas is produced the farm- er will reap somewhat of a ban- anza. It will cost neither the far- mer or the town of Lindsay any- thing to see whether natural gas is prevalent in this vicinity. Ii gas ... . . 4“ As was stated in Wednesday’s is- sue Mr. Robt. Leary. of Peter-bore, was in Lindsay interviewing several of the citizens relative to putting the matter before the town council, securing the franchise, and commenc- ing drilling operations, â€etc. Mr. Leary was present in the interests of a number of Americangentlemen, who have placed their money in this concern and who were welcomed with open arms by the city council of Peterboro. ï¬atural Gas . Propositimi . Submitted to the Council Mr. Leary was present Wednesday at a meeting of the council, the Board of Trade and citizens and preâ€" sented the matter to those present briefly. He stated that he was‘con- nected with a party of Americans who were interested in the produc- tion of natural gas. They were practically self-made men and have had considerable experience in gas matters. They were anxious to commence operations in Canada and last summer had toured in their automobile several likely sections of country and passed through Peter- boro. At Peterboro they were greatly taken up with the surround- ings, etc., and immediately decided to locate there and commence opera- tions it arrangements could be made. The city council of Peterboro was waited upon and the result was that they were received with open arms and were given the franchise. and Mr. Leary immediately canvassed the farmers for land. He met with splendid results, but just about the time when the land had been nearly. all secured four farmers held the company up. so to speak, and as their land was the section on which the engineers wished to ï¬rst com- mence drilling, a deadlock ensued. v r-‘ "7- is forthcoming it will be shpplied to manufacturers and householders at a low rate and to the farmer (one well) free. 1y low prices. x\S THE WESTERN BANK FARMERS BUSINESS A SPECIALTY JOINT ACCOUNT particularlv valuable and cnnvient for farmers Permits depositing or withdrawal ot money by husband or W’fe. At the present time gas is being made for domestic purposes in Peâ€" terboro for $1.25 per thousand cu- bic feet. and in making the agreement with the new concern the council. in- serted a clause to }_the.. eflect that if natural gas was found‘the company would not charge more than 50¢ per thousand cubic feet for domestic purposes and not more than 250 for manufacturing purposes, which is :quite a difference." " ’2 AL.‘ Okn Mr. Leary went of; to say that me same clause could be inserted by Lindsay council it gas was procured. And he further intimated that if gas was taken in larger quantities there was a. possibility of it being sold at for 25¢ per thousand cubic feet. for domestic purposes and 15c for manufacturing purposes. How- ever. he did not guarantee this. The speaker further stated that the reason why the International Bar- vesting Co. went to Hamilton in preference to Peterboro was due to “A,“ _--_-A Ohnm I acre per year PI vnv- Vu‘v v- the fact that lâ€"lamilton oflered them natural gas..while at the time Pe- terboro could not do so.
