TREATING THE BUTTER IAI’ER As a preventive of mould on but- ter, the following practice is highly recommended: Soak the parchment paper linings, immediately before us- ing in a. saturated brine to which has been added one ounce of pure formalin to three gallons of brine; place the paper in «boxes without. drying. Keep the brine in a Speci- al covered vessel. Boil the brine every week and add fresh formalin i-n the same proportion as at first. This treatment has been. found effec- tive in the government .crcameries in the Northwest Territories where a great deal of trouble arose from mould at one time, and has given good satisfaction wherever it has been prepcrly carried out. The article goes on to say that butter paper should be kept. in an enclosed dry place, and none but good quality used. That will weigh 40 pounds to the 500 sheets of 50 x council on March 14th.
