He. was superintending the stretching of the wires met the telephone poles recently erected between Fenelon Falls and Sturgeon Point. About a “m“ mm“ “mm workingr under him. dozen men were working under him. This connection will be a great ad- vantage to the dwellers at Sturgeon Point. With its telephonic connec- tion and golf links, Sturgeon Point ranks high as a place of refuge in the summer months. Last. Friday thirteen advance agents of the Pan-American circus placed in position, large posters ad- vertising the wonders to be seen in their tents on August lst. The probability is that the tents will have difficulty in containing the auâ€" dicnce. Miss McMillan of New Westminster. B..,C left on Thursday for Whitby College. She had been for some weeks the guest, of Miss E. DeCew. She will Visit, other friends in On- tario during the remainder of tht vacation, as she does not intend re- turning to the Pacific coast till the completion of her three years course ,at the O.L.C. Whitby. It. is said, but for the truth of the. report we cannot vouch, that owing to some accidents which have xecent- 1‘ occurred on swing bridges at other points. that the 6 ..TR. ('0 intend prohibiting foot passengers on the R. R. swing bridge over Fenelon river. If such be the case it will be a great int onvenience to the residents of Redâ€" ner' 5 Point, but still in many ways the restriction will be a good one. There is danger in crossing bridges, particularly in the case of children. The many warm friends of Col. S. to his new place of bus ’1- greet him frequuntly during the last week on our streets. He and his son Garnet are rapidly rushing on the pretty summer cottage on (‘ook’s Point, and soon we will consider the Colonel and his family residents of ‘Fenelon Falls, at least, in the sumâ€" mer months. Two pleasant functions are billed for July 30th. The Methodist S. S. take their annual outing on that day to the Peat Works at Portage Road. 'per palace scow and lake steamer. 1n the evening the annual garden lpurty of St. James' church will be lheld in the rectory grounds. For both of these entertainments we be- speak large attendance and most en- joyable social outings. Both the Methodist. and Anglican bodies here are. noted entertainers and weather permitting both afternoon and even- ing functions will be unqualified sucâ€" cess. ' Hughes, 181.13., have been pl‘ greet him frequently during Messrs. Brandon, McDongall Aus- tin keep to the front in the shipping of livé stock. On Wednesday of last week a large number of sheep and cattle were driven through the vil- lage to be shipped on the following morning. The council have been behaving themselves pretty well lately and we. believe in giving them credit for it. "Honor to whom honor is due." They, have given us some splendid crossings, and they have. cleaned the frongstreet, for which act they de- serve the eternal gratitude of every ratepayer. About. 4 21.111. on Wednesday the fire ’alarm aroused us all from our peaceful slumbers and a glow lit. the‘ early morning sky. The glow was‘ a particularly bright one and pro- ceeded from a. small frame house on the edge of ,Lhe river, just opposite the residence of Mr. Geo. Martin. The night. was calm, water very plentiful: and workers many and willing, so the fire was confined to the one building which was destroy- ’ed, but had a. strong wind been pre- veiling the blaze might have had a very .difierent course.- The Kawartha brought Mr. W. S. been pleased to Housel of \ew York, accompameu by a path of eight from Sturgeon Point to camp for a couple of \weks at Dahl's Point. Chas. Tobico will act as their guide in fishing and otherwise, and had their tents stretâ€" ched in readiness for them on Tues- day. Mr. J. N. Stewart of the Dobcay- geon Independent spent Saturday at goon lnue the Falls. Messrs. McFudycn, I‘iungvrford and Sharpe. painters of Lindsay have been engaged for the last wcck ro- painting the woodwork on the handâ€" some residences of Reeve McArthur and Mr. H. Austin.
