A, PHRENOLOGY IN THE SCHOOL: By Prof, Dean The longer we live the more we see the usefulness of Phrenology. It manifests itself throughout our universities and colleges, and should be the mainspring by which profes- sors and teachers interpret the charâ€" acters of their students. The intellect is properly treated under three heads; first, the Perâ€" meptions, whose organs are located along the base of the forehead, ncross the eyebrows, and, and when large give fullness to that part of {the head. These give the power to observe and gather knowledge from :the the things around us. The sec- m‘ary faculties, are Jule middle of the fronthead, giving ï¬t [1111an across the centre. The third group arei found in the upper part of the fore- head and are called the faculties. and on these last depend the strength and outreach of the, mind. Some heads, then. are large across the brow and the forehead retreats, while both the middle and upper sections are somewhat deï¬cient. These persons are the observers and fact gatherers. Other foreheads are; full along the centre, while the low- or and upper parts are less develop- ed. Those who have reasouing org- ans stronger than those 01' memory and observation will have a heavy overhanging forehead. The pupil, therefore, having a well developed brow, with the upper part retreating, will want to see and exâ€" amine objects, will remember things. and will often do well at writing drawing, spelling, and be apt in apt in scientiï¬c studies. Those hav- ing the middle section of the foreâ€" head large will have a good memo- ry for facts, events, stories, will learn readily from books, and gen- erally make good scholars. If the upper part is more strongly develop- ed than the lower the pupil will do well in literature, mathematics. chemistry, will think and reason, and. ask all kinds of questions. If the organ of locality is large he will learn geography readily. If the organ of Number, found at the outer corner of the eye is large he will be quick in figures. The organ of Form when large, gives width between the eyes and enables the pupil to make outlines and capitals, and aids him in reading, spelling and committing to memory. The organ of Order, found half an inch from the outer corner of the eye,- when large gives method. sys- tem, neatness, and children show it 13y keeping Hooks and papers in their planes. The organ 0] Time is found on each side of the head just above the eyebrow and when large gives a rounded fullness to that part of the (ample. It enables children to learn to sing easily and to play an instru- ment. Children can learn music while quite young. I think teach- ers would do well to notice to some extent the forms of their pupils heads, and in this way understand their mental abilities: and out of the family life there should go with the children into the school a sym- pathy with the teacher; for- parents and teachers should, as far as pos- sible, work in harmony one with an- other. â€"â€"â€"+â€"â€"â€"-â€" , 0mm rm, , The fair at On‘flia has been a good one for several years now; and this- year it looks as though it was, gum g to be béttel' tban the 37% ~‘ of the best feat ' ' ' business NEXT - 0N T1113 PIMRAIIE.
