No license fee is paid the Government, and the liquor is cheap and nasty. It has produced a contraband trade of large proportions. A Toronto Newspaper Says that It has closed the hotels in the smaller places, and obliged visitors and travellers to seek accommodation in private houses, and meals at the general store. It has driven business to the licensed towns. If a local option town is “looking up,†it's because it’s on its back." It has caused liquor to invade the homeâ€"in quantity. It has encouraged the bottle habit and solitary tippling. It has caused young men to drink who never drank before. Boozing clubs im- port the stuff from the nearest wet townâ€"â€"-â€"every dry town gets its supply from the the nearest wet oneâ€"-and the police have more disorder to quell, because these drink- ing bouts develop into two or three day orgies.
