He had up to that time, and continued till after the election, to keep protection at arms lemth, and declared only for readjustment. I called his atten- tion to the fact that some of his suppor- ters were using protectionist ianguaze and ventured to goint out to him that while the United tates, with their vast and varied area of production, and their immtnse home market, might nc t sufl’er so much from the procectionist system, that system would never do for Canada. The board has dealt with the question of milk, and instructed the inspector to exercise a rigid super vision over persons oflering milk for sale. and to prosecute any person altering to sell anything but the pure and unadulterated article. We have also had under consideration the leasibility of procuring some appliance for superheated steam for the purpose of disinfecting bedding and clothing which have been used in houses where contagious diseases have existed. but owing to the cost of such a plant exceeding what was expected by the board. no action was recommended by the committee who had the matter under consideration.
