The backbone at Lindsay is the magnifi- cent farming country roundabout, and ever since the Lindsay Central ceased its roving existence the honest yeomen of the country have given it loyal support, and neighbor competes with neighbor in one or many of the departments with a good- natured persistency that is not to be explained away by the value of the prize contended for. They realize that competiâ€" tion is healthy and beneï¬cial, and they take a proper pride in producing the best of everything. Many times during the past ï¬fteen years the fair directors have thought it wise to invite some distinguished citizen of the Dominion to open the fair, and afford visitors from the remote districts an op- pcrtnnity of seeing men who take a. prominent part in shaping the country's destinies, butphis year they have not done , I,AL__A-ï¬l_- L- “at. Bright, warm weather and a clear sky greeted the people of Victoria county this morning when they arose from their ‘ slumbers, and they evidently lost no time ‘ in preparing to visit Lindsay and take in the sights at the fair. as vehicles began to arrive at an early hour. and a long proces- sion of teams and carriages soon apps on every road leading into town. The early arrivals sought dinner about 11 o'clock, contrary to the practice of other years. and were ready to start for the fair grounds she? at 12. Still, the real crush at the gates id not occur till between 1 30 and 2 o'clock, and during the half-hour many hundreds of people passed through on foot and in carriages without apparent- ly diminishing the number seeking admis- sion. Once inside, many of the opie scampsred over the green to seek po nts cf vantage fr m which to witness the speed- ing events about to be called : others sought comfortable seats on the grand stand. where they would be shelters from the warm afternoon sun; humbers so t the main hall to inspect the various is plays below and the wealth of fan work above ; and still others wand about the stock enclosures and admired the sleek. well-fed animals therein secured. This Year’s Central Fair the Most Successful Ever Held. In consequence of the warm weather the refreshment booths did a ruehln busi- ness, particularly those in charge E. S. Seanes and Theo. Fee.
