inadvertent act of a generous and kind- : hearted man was held by the judges to be E snflleient to upset the election. We do ? not feel disposed to review the decision of t Q'the court. Abbott's brief rest after pacifying the striking Chapieau has been broken mm heard my. During the eeriier period of ministerial reconstruction there were abundant promises of an infusion of "new blood” that would give ‘ needed vigor and activity to the adminis- ; tretion end place it more “in touch with the people.” These were the prospects held out by certain inspired tory organs, W the inspired utterances were by ‘nomeens flattering to the old togies and tent of touch ministers in the cabinet. It imid now appear that the "old iogies” ieloneeid have no intention of making way 3 for the "new blood." They are holding on ‘io omee "like death to a dead nigger.” and there is very poor prospect of the ministry muting into “touch with the people.” A very significant notice hes been served on Premier Abbott by such devoted minister- ergans as rho Montreal Gazette and the we Citinen to proceed with his recon: on in order to "intune the new '. and not ' into touch with the “ The «leaner-i oi delay ere grephi pity painted. There can be no doubt as to the conservative candi- dature. It will be the same election contest over again. The riding knows what it has to face and go through. and we are confident the popular verdict will replace Hr. Barron in the position he held up to a tow days ago and the duties of which he hasdischarged with credit to himself and the country. Rea against Mr. Barron were wisely dropped. They had no foundation except in the heated imagination and chagrin of a defeated opponent. And while an injudi cious act was suflicient to void the election there was no evidence of any reckless or corrupt expenditure on the part of Mr. Barron and his friends. If there had been the slightest chance of disqualifying Mr. Barron or proving extensive corruption we may be sure that ‘ the malignant hatred that inspired the eontestation would have sought the further means of wreaking vengeance. A new election may be expected in January; and the friends of Mr. Barron will no doubt re-elect him by an increased majority. A large number of witnesses were exam- ined, and several peculiar transactions were brought out. The court adjourned at six o'clock to Friday morning. THE NORTH VICTORIA. CASE. Our esteemed super-loyal cotemporaries should not be too severe in their denuncia- tions of the Hon. Sol. White for his advocacy of annexation. History often repeats itself, and the Whirligig of time may yet elevate the Hon. Sol. from the position of Mr. Meredith’s deputy in the local house to the leadership of the tory‘ party and the premiership of the Domin- ion. Mr. Abbott in his younger days was ‘ not a whit more advanced as an annexa tionist than Mr. Sol. White is to day, and see where he is now! Mr. White stands the best chance of any man in the list to have this sweet reven on the tory organists of the day. ’1‘ e should not, therefore, 0 it too hot an heavy. But they are l accustomed to pretty sharp turns- and they would to marrow praise the on. Sol. to the skies if aparty exi- gency requirvd it. THE SOUTH VICTORIA ELEC- TION CASE.
