Sir Louis Davies, in the course' of a discussion of Intercolonial exten‘ sion, stated that so far from there‘ being any scandal attaching to Libexnls in connection with the Dmmmond County Railway purchase the transaction was one of which the Ministry was proud. It had been discovered that the subsidy gmnted to the road by the former Government was . milked, and the Lauri-r Government A would insist at the coming session on a full investigation of the transaction. Re velations would be made that would make men in public life hang their heads in shame, and, added Sir Louis signiï¬cantly. those men are not Liberals. The other important announcement was by Mr. Paterson, who said that the Post- master-General had made arrangen‘cnts by which, af:er January 1, letters weigh- ing not over one ounce, would be sent from Canada at a three-cent rate to all parts of the British Empire. When the present Government came in they grappled with that business as busi- ness men. We sat down as business men with representatives of the G.T.R. That is, we shall share absolutely with them in the enjoyment of all the terminal facilities which they have in Montreal. Secondly, we agreed that for $37,500 we should have the same rights of traï¬c over Victoria bridge that they have; and, thirdly, we agreed that we should buy but one-half of the37 miles of road from the end of the bridge to Ste.
