Peace -loving people have lately been shocked by the rude and ungen- tlemanly conduct ofcertain youngr men who are disturbing the peace ofthe village by shouting and a kind of screaming at all hours of the night, especially on Saturdays. One dislikes very much to call the attention of the public to this dis- reputable conduct, Vet We think that it Is but right to direct our authorities to this fact and to urge them to look after the delinquents. W's can hardly think it possible that the authorities are tolerating such a nuisance on the streets at the expense of the comfort and peace of the tax-payers. The sooner this contemptible conduct is stopped and an example made of the culprits by giving them their dues the better for all con- cerned. Colbome Express: "We read in certain papers comparisons of things in general as they were in I896 and woe. but many more in- cidents on the same line are never mentioned. For instance, here's a sample:â€"In 1896 printing and adv'g for the Intercolonlal Rail- way under the extravagant Tories cost $44,647; in 1900 $60,706 un- der “good and economical men.” Certain papers are not only re- ceiving what they formerly de- scribed as “subsides,” but they are demanding and receiving $16,000 a vear more than their “subsidiz- ed" contemporaries did the same work for. That is the further i1- lustration ofGrit sincerity.” SflfSflPfll‘ilifi The Census Taking. An April Wedding. . The duct, “The Magic Hour," bv Miss Maye Laidley and Mr. \V. G. Stephenson, was beautiful- ly sung. This was the first time we have had the pleasure of hear- mg Mr. Stephenson sing. and we must say he did himself credit. He has a remarkable fine tenor voice. Miss Laidley also did herself credit in this selection, and they were loudly applauded. The 3010.]olly Iack."and encore sel- ection, “My \Vild Irish Rose," by Mr ]. Massie, were both excellen tly rendered. Wm. CurryC o.‘ The quartette selection, “Lust Night." by Misses M. Laidley, A. Balfour, B. Spence. and Annie Thompson, was sung tunefully and with expression and was high- appreciated. The solo, “Beauty Sleep," by Mrs. T. C. IVOry was beautifully rendered. Mrs. Ivory is also one of Omemee's leading sopranists, and her selection de- lighted the audience. The piano selection “La Polka de La Reina,” (Caprice,) by Mr. Geo. A. Norris. of Omem'e, “brought down the house." The piece was one of exceptional diffi- culty, and was brilliantly played. He was compelled to respond with The Violin selection “ Blue Balls of Scotland," bv Mr. J. Massie, of Toronto, and his encore selection were both excellent. Mr. Massie is one of the leading violinist: in the Dominion. The solo, “A Bird from O’er the Sea," by Mrs. Scry- mgeour-Massie, was sane in excel- lent voxce. Mrs Massle is one of 'l‘oronto'sleading Sopranists. Her singing from the very first won the hearts of the audience. It is a rare treat to hear such singing. an encore _salection. {Chopin's Nocturne in G. Major.) The Solo. “Spring," by Miss Maye Laldlcy, was sung in her usualexcellent voice, and rcéived due applause. Miss Laidley is one of Omemec’s leading sopran- ists. The Bradburn Hall was hand- sowely decorated on the evening of Easter Monday, the occasion being the “ Twentieth Century Concert," held under the auspices of the Omernee Methodist Choir, and indeed it will be one of the most memorable events of the present century. The weather and roads were not whatone would expect to bring out a large number, but notwithstanding such, there was a good attendance and all present were delighted with the entertainment. Solo, “The Carmval," by Mn. J. Parnell Morris, Was well receiv- ed and loudly applauded. The Plano selection by Miss Florence MacPherson, was beautifully ren- dered. Miss McPherson is fast commg to the front as one of the leading Pianists of the dav. TWENTIETH C E N T URY CONCERT, Held Under the Ausplces of Omemee Methodist. Choir. Precisely at eight o'clock the program commenced. The first number thereon being a Piano duet by Miss E. Sandie and Mr. C. M. Caldwell. The music thus presented was a real treat, and called forth much applause. The 3010, “The Flight of Ages," by Miss A. Thompson, was well ren- dered, in a. rich and clear alto voice. Miss Thompson is one of Omemee’s most popular singers. The Recitation, “Little Bobbie Shaftoe," by Miss Helen Pollard, of Orono, Was one of the best numbers on the program, and showed excellent eloeutionary ab- llities. The applause received was well deserved. We.of course, approve of the same. Messrs. T. I. Parsons, Choir master and C. A. Caldwell. organ ist, deserve the thanks of the peo pie for having spared no pains or labor to present to an Omemee audience such a 'rare treat. The chair and concert committee also deserve credit for their assistance in making the concert a success. The proceeds amounted to nearly $50, but would undoubtedly have been nearly double had the roads and weather been favorable. Should ur. and Mrs. Massie.
