Joseph Scriven Was born in Ireland at Seapatrick, County Down, on September 10th 1820. He was a graduate of Trinity College, Dublin. At the age of twenty-five, he went to Canada and settled there at Rice Lake, and afterwards at Port Hope, Ontario. He died August 10, 1886. To mark the Centenary of the Hymn “What A Friend We Have In Jesus,” a Centenary Service will be held at the grave of the author Joseph Scriven, at the Pengelly Farm, Bailieborough, South Mona- ghan, on Sunday, September 8th, 1957 at 3 p.m. The Service will be conduct- ed by the President of the Ministerial Association, Rev. W. H. Heustin, B.A., Grace Presbyterian Church, Mill- brook. .7 A monument to his memory was erected by the people of the district and unveiled am May 24th, 1920.
