(From Wednesday's Evening Post) At last night's session of the coun- cil a resolution was unanimously 'car- rled granting Miss Florence May Cur- rie, Assistant Town Clerk, leave of absence during August. This young lady. who is one of the town’s most Valued officials, has h‘a-d a pretty strenuous year, and has more than earned a month’s vacation. 1 The bylaw read as follows:â€" 1. That in this by-law the word “tax” or “taxes” shall be read and construed as meaning all taxes, in- cluding school taxes, local improveâ€" ments, assessments and taxes, sewer rents, water rates, water sprinkling rates” and all other rates payable as taxes. ’ 2. That all taxes shall be payable on the day of the passing of the by law fixing the general rate of taxation for the year. l 3. That no interest shall be charged and no discount allowed‘on any taxes paid before the first of December in the year in respect of which said tax- es are levied. t 4. That any rate payer who pays his taxes within 14 days after the giving of the notice Provided for by section 102 of the Assessment Act shall E be deemed to have punctually paid the same, and shall not be liable to!) any additional percentage. 5. That on and after the first day of 3 December of each year, five per cent interest shall be added to all out- standing taxes for the then current year, and such additional percentage' shall be collected by the collector or otherwise: as if the same had been originally imposed and formed part of such unpaid tax. 6. That in case the 13th day of Novâ€" ember fallsona Sunday or a public: holiday, payment may be made on the 5 next judicial day. ; 7. That taxes maybe paid to the { town Treasurer at his office or to the Collector of taxes. . I 8. Nothing herein contained shall prevent the tax Collector from pro- ceeding at any time with the collec- tion of any rate, tax, or assessment, or any part thereof, in accordance with the aprovision of the statutes and the by-laws governing the collection of taxes. .‘ 9. That by-law No. 1137 'shall not be deemed to apply to the collection of taxes on the 2911 tax roll or to any tax roll for any year subsequent to the year 1910. l 10. That this by-law shall be deemed to apply to the collection of taxes on the 191i tax roll and on all subseâ€" quent tax rolls until such time as it may be repealed. 11. That all by-laws and parts ‘oi by-laws inconsistent with the moldsâ€" ions of this bylaw be and the same are hereby repealed. At last night’s meeting of the coun- cil an important by-law was passed after considerable discussion, fixing the mode of payment of taxes. Con- siderable difficulty has been exper- ienced in the past in the collection of taxes and it was telt that the by-law would tend greatly to solve the prob- lem.
